Roommate moved out and didn’t pay Internet so it was cut off. Should have it back on next week. Sorry for the additional delays. What have I been up to in my spare time… learned how to author a DVD (possible Fastcore Photos Video Mixtape) and hopefully will have time to screenprint some TLAL aprons. TLAL bucketlist. Miss all you folks, hope to be back online soon!
This is my new band. That is me on bass, TLAL intern/roommate Jace singing, Christophe and Kane of Burma fame on guitar and drums. Can’t hear the bass well because the rig I was borrowing was either way too loud or too soft.
Issue #338 July ’11 of MRR:
SIDETRACKED – “Uniform” EP
“Thinking back to the time when my record purchases were based primarily on how many songs a band could cram onto an EP, this SIDETRACKED record would have been at the top of my list. A thirteen song one-sided single screams powerviolence, and SIDETRACKED deliver the goods with start/stop madness and bursts of chaos tempered with brief but crushing slow riffs before launching back into head spinning riff after riff and a drummer that seems to not have a handle on “appropriate boundaries” and just goes fukkn’ apeshit from start to finish. Completely manic and ADD, but in the best possible way- SIDETRACKED has written songs , and even when they are thirteen seconds long, you have a chance to get into them. And please believe that I got into them. If you like fast and you like power, then you like this. Do it.(WN)

Going to keep the store down another week to find time to finish writing and laying out this bad boy. Some general history of house shows in Raleigh. Hopefully interesting.

Day 1
Had a really good flight out to Texas. Got into town and got up with my friend Wyatt from college, who was super nice to put me up at his house for four days. We got some grub. We got back to his house and I was pretty antsy to get to the show, as there were a bunch of bands I hadn’t heard and I was curious and excited to be at Chaos in Tejas for the first time. I had just bought a Kodak HD flip cam and an mini external condenser mic to videotape the fest so I was excited. My friend let me also borrow his bike the whole weekend so I threw the pocket cam in my pocket and was off towards downtown to Emo’s to see the first show. I spent a good part of my time socializing when I got there but I saw hometown (to my hometown) Double Negative on the inside stage. It was too crazy in there to grab any video so I have none. I made the mistake of waiting too long to go back in later for D-Clone to play and had to wait most of their set at the door. I felt uncomfortable filming them by holding the camera up in front of people’s faces behind me so I didn’t get video until their encore, here that is:
Last band of the night was the Cro-Mags. Super excited to see them. I never really grew up on them at all, kind of assumed they were a super jock band until it was a little too late. Love the John Joseph spoken word book so I was eager to see them preform. John Joseph more a Rude Boy ska-checkered shirt and ran around the stage like a mad man. He ran in place at some points and brought a ton of energy to the stage.

Youth of Today completely blew my away at the fest. I have listened to the band since I was 15 years old and they didn’t disappoint. Here are the videos and some audio I captured from it!
Minor Threat (Minor Threat)

My phone messed up quite a few pictures but oh well. Since last post…saw an epic house show on 54th Ave. Mindless and Shitstorm totally killed it. Chest Pain and Flesh Temple equally killed. Rode with Sandro and Sven RSR back downtown to catch a free show. Teargas was good and Phobia played the best set I’ve ever seen them play. Ate a ton of veggie sushi and missed a few bands but made sure to catch Capitalist Casualties and they were the cherry on the fest’s top. Next up will be a huge videoblog update.

Just a few pictures as I’m posting from my phone. Highlights so far.. Youth of Today and their Minor Threat and 7 Seconds covers, Cromags, -/- hometown heros, D-Clone, Citizens Arrest, Iron Lung twice, finally seeing Lotusfucker who has two members from Deathrats, No Static killed it, Doom, Kreigshog, and all the wonderful friends I’ve seen. Tomorrow I’m heading to a grindcore house show with Shitstorm, Mindless, Chest Pain, and Fleshtemple and then seeing Capitalist Casualties. After that…so long Austin.
See you back online in a week!
